It was 1922 when Sir William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company that initially made motorcycle sidecars. But the SS Jaguar name first appeared on a 2.5 liter saloon in 1935. The Jaguar name was given to the entire company in 1945 when the SS was dropped due to lack of popularity from World War II. The SS 100 model became the world’s first Jaguar.

NEW 2010 INFINITY G37 COUPLE CAR

Redesigned for 2008, the Infiniti G37 Coupe has received minor trim changes for 2010, including a revised interior and upgraded navigation and entertainment systems. For 2010 customers can chose from four different trim levels, G37 Coupe, G37 Coupe Journey, G37 Coupe Sport 6MT and G37x Coupe AWD with prices ranging from $36,050 to $40,400.

Changes for 2010: the previous "Washi" aluminum trim is replaced by a new "Shodo" style trim, the previous African Rosewood wood accents have been replaced by new, high-gloss Maple Accents, standard 8-way power passenger seats on all models, a new center console design on automatic transmission-equipped models and a number of package content changes, such as the addition of the Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster™ air purifier to the Technology Package and making RearView Monitor standard on most models.

The G37 Coupe is powered by a 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 engine rated at 330 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and mated to either a 7-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport (DS) Mode, Downshift Rev Matching and available solid magnesium paddle shifters or a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

If you are up to date on the latest on goings in wireless technology, then you should be familiar with Steve Job’s latest offering, the iPad. Like a plus sized iPhone the new 21st century tablet will offer the world a simple, sleek and lightweight PDA that is capable of doing everything from surfing the web to playing videogames and even reading virtual magazines in a way that the much more compact iPhone never could, even if it is 3Gs equipped. This is all well and good for the techies out there, but what does this mean for us automotive enthusiasts.

Measuring in at just over half an inch thick and tipping the scales at just over a 1.5 pounds, the iPad will bring a whole new level of wireless connectivity to in car passengers. And while the iPhone has apps that can measure your car’s 0 to 60 MPH time or check error codes, an iPad could be used to tune it on the fly just like Paul Walker in the original Fast and Furious film. If you thought texting and driving was a problem, the iPad could stir up a whole other round of driver distractions, but because of the electronic tablet’s inherent popularity automakers will almost certainly be forced to offer docking stations as well as iPod cables in their future models, but until then the sky is the limit as far as what the new portable computers will be doing on the regular highway as well as the information kind.

Monster World Rally Team revealed the first details on the WRC Ford Fiesta that will be driven by Ken Block at the 2010 WRC, Rally America and X-Games.

How’s this for ironic: Bugatti – you know them as the makers of one of the most mouth-watering cars in the world – has tapped the services of Ferrari to help them create one of the most expensive ballpoint pens you can imagine.

Ok, it’s not really what you think it is. While it’s true that Bugatti is set to come out with a pen that’s beyond expensive, it didn’t commission the Prancing Horse to make the pens for them but a company that conveniently goes by the name of Ferrari de Varese.

Designed by Luigi Trenti of the aforementioned Ferrari de Varese, the Bugatti Type A pen is not your ordinary ballpoint that you can just buy at any Barnes and Noble. First of all, it’s crafted from aluminum and plated with the following minerals: nickel, silver, palladium, and platinum. You guys keeping up?

In addition to that, the pen’s nib is made from rhodium-coated 18-karat gold that also comes with a sapphire glass window and a lacquered black embossed Bugatti logo.

With all these jewelry and expensive minerals, you can probably imagine how much this Bugatti pen is going to cost you. Let’s just say that for one of these babies, you can actually buy yourself a decent car. That’s right, folks. You’re going to have to shell out $15,000 just to get your hands on one.

When the Japanese automaker Toyota wanted to show the world what their latest super car, the LF-A could do, they entered a pair of preproduction Supra successors into a number of exhibition style endurance races at the world famous Nurburgring. Following a similar path, Honda’s domestic racing program has just announced that they will be returning to the island nation’s top tier of motor sport when they debut their next generation super car, the HSV-10 GT on March 20 at the beginning of the 2010 Super GT season. It is only fitting that the NSX’s successor, the Honda Sports Velocity turns its first wheel in competition at the at the Suzuka Circuit, being that it is the automaker’s own test track, making it an even more important initial run for the HSV because you know that all of the people that are going to decide the new sports vehicle’s fate will be in attendance.

Despite the exotic V10 powered future NSX rumors, the new HSV-10 GT is powered by a low displacement 3.4 Liter V8 with a maximum output of over 500 HP. The high output engine is mated to a Ricardo sequential manual gearbox, the same unit used by Nissan and Toyota in their Super GT machines, ensuring that their drivers will be hard pressed to miss a shift. With a body that is somewhere between 21st century NSX and an ASL Garaiya from the Japanese Autobacs tuning shop, the future HSV-10 GT is guaranteed to carve out a place for itself in Japanese automotive culture.

Despite being limited to just 500 units, the Lexus LF-A has been, hands down, one of the most popular supercars to come out in recent times. So as you can imagine, the demand for the LF-A has been, to say the least, off the charts, so much so that even before the car hit dealerships in its native land in Japan, all the 165 units of the LF-A allotted for the country have already sold out.

While the coupe version of the LF-A has been turning heads left and right, rumors about a roadster version of the Lexus super car has been running the mills for the past couple of months. As a result of enormous clamoring for an LF-A roadster, the folks over at Autogespot decided to render the supercar to see what it would look like once it loses its roof.

Lexus has still to make an announcement on whether or not the LF-A will produce a roadster offspring but judging from the renderings done by Autogespot, the LF-A convertible is just as - maybe even more - mouth-watering than the hardtop version.

Adding even more fuel to the sport compact fire, the Japanese automaker Toyota has unveiled the FT-86 G Sports Concept at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon. The FT-86 will be the first in a new line of factory modified vehicles that will be sold this summer under the new nameplate. The G Sports concepts are aimed at customers who have a strong desire to own a unique vehicle by offering them both personalized interior and exterior pieces that is designed to give the driver a sports car experience. As opposed to traditional manufacturers who might have outsourced a job like this, Toyota has kept the G Sports line an in house project.

The first of a the factory tuned G Sport cars is equipped with wider wheel arches to house the unique 19 inch alloys, a vented carbon fiber hood as well as aggressive front and back bumpers with a trick rear diffuser and an over sized wing sitting on top of the trunk. On the inside the FT-86 G Sports Concept gets a pair of Recaro racing buckets while a sport tuned suspension places a special focus on “driving seasoning” in order to make the new FT-86 as fun to drive as the old Hachi Roku.

2011 MUSTANG GT PACE CAR!

While Chevrolet’s Camaro SS has served as the iconic Indianapolis 500 pace car for ages, the blue oval hopes to shake things up a bit after a 40 year absence from the Daytona 500 when a 2011 Ford Mustang GT is used to lead the grid around the oval on February 14th, this is quite a move considering that the 412 HP 21st century 5.0 will be the first Ford to serve as the pace car for NASCAR’s biggest race since a Torino GT convertible guided the pack back in 1970.

The Mustang GT Daytona 500 Pace Car will feature a special Daytona 500 Race Red livery with American inspired racing stripes in white and blue. Underneath the new sheet metal, the new GT will have a the all new 32 valve 5.0 Liter V8 that makes over 400 HP on low octane and 390 lb-ft of torque while returning 25 MPG. In order to handle repeated trips around the high banking, the Mustang will be equipped with a Ford Racing suspension and strut tower brace to keep the car tracking straight while unique color matching wheels wrapped in high performance rubber and a set of loud pipes so that the fans will hear it coming.

After the big race, the Mustang pace car will roll across the auction block on January 23rd at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with its special interior adornments, lit sill plates and all. Not to mention that this will be one of the first 5.0s to have a VIN stamped on it which will only increase the pony car’s collectibility.

Toyota’s plans are to offer a wider variety of conventional hybrid choices to its customers. This variety will include plug-in hybrids (PHVs), battery electrics (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCHVs). This is why, today at the Detroit Auto Show the company brought the FT-CH (compact hybrid) concept.

Compared to a Prius, the FT-CH is 22 inches shorter in overall length, yet loses less than an inch in overall width, meaning it will offer maximum passenger comfort and interior roominess.

The FT-CH was designed to capture the high-energy appeal of the 8-bit generation: fun and innovative, colorful and stylish, with strong appeal to young buyers.

Compared to a Prius, the FT-CH is lighter in weight and even more fuel efficient, but will also be cheaper.

First offered as a limited edition in 2007 and 2008, the BMW Alpina B7 will join again the BMW’s line-up as a 2011 model. It will be based on the BMW 7 Series platform and will go on sale in the spring. The official debut will be made in February at the Chicago Auto Show.

2010 BUICK REGAL GS CONCEPT

The European market has the Opel Insignia, we have the Buick Regal. And how in Europe a high performance version of the sedan is known as the OPC, in here it will be called Regal GS. We will see the car making its official debut next week at the Detroit Auto Show.

The Regal GS is powered by a 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged engine with direct-injection technology that delivers a total of 255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that directs torque to an adaptive all-wheel-drive system. Translated into performance this means a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.

The sports sedan is equipped with a four-wheel-independent suspension, with a unique High Performance Strut (HiPerStrut) design, a high-performance Brembo brake system with 14 x 1.2-inch (355 x 32 mm) cross-drilled rotors; four-piston, high-strength aluminum calipers, and high-performance pads and Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS) chassis technology.

Not too long ago Ferrari announced plans to resurrect the Gran Turismo Omologato moniker with a special edition 599 Fiorano. The super very special 599 GTO will be unveiled in March at the Geneva Motor Show with a scheduled production run of only 500 units, each priced at around half a million dollars each. This will be the first time that the Italian automaker has used the GTO badge since the F40 super car inspiring 288 GTO.

The 599 GTO will be a road going version of the Ferrari Corse Clienti special, the Ferrari 599XX. Through the extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber, essentially dropping about 300 pounds from the GT car, bringing the curb weight down to 1450 kilograms. Meanwhile the high revving 6.0 Liter V12 will be tuned to deliver somewhere between 680 HP and 700 HP making the future 599 GTO a real beast that will be able to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 3.2 seconds and gallop all the way to a 217 MPH top speed.

2011 MERCEDES C-CLASS COUPE

Mercedes Benz will go head to head with their German rivals in an attempt to steal a share of the entry level luxury youth market from new car shoppers looking to buy a BMW 1-Series with their new C-Class Coupe for 2011. With a hindquarter that closely resembles that of a CTS Coupe, this smaller C-Class is to the future as the old C230 Kompressor was to the recent past, a premium compact with sporty looks that adds another rung to the bottom of the Mercedes Benz ownership ladder. This move should come as no surprise considering what the German automaker has done with their all new E-Class lineup, turning the full size sedan into everything from a two door cabriolet to a fire breathing factory tuned AMG version.

So don’t be surprised if you start to see the C in a few more shapes and sizes. What we do know is that under the hood, the C-Class Coupe will be offered with the same direct injected 3.5 Liter V6 engines that the standard car comes with, and much like the use of forced induction with the supercharged smaller displacement motor in the Kompressor, there will also be a twin turbocharged unit making around 300 HP with a lot less displacement. No words yet on the AMG version, but if Mercedes is keen on the idea of downsizing, expect the hand built 6.2 Liter motor to give way to a 5.5 Liter twin turbocharged V8 engine.

Quite a few shiny new cars have rolled through the Top Speed garage over the last 365 days, we have logged countless miles and spent enough time in drive thrus to thoroughly evaluate the ins and outs of everything from a stripped down fuel efficient Chevy Cobalt XFE that we thought would make a great racecar all the way up to a fully loaded ginormous GL 550 from Mercedes, everything from the gas/electric hybrid king of the road Toyota Prius to just about every iteration of Subaru’s all new Legacy. But it wasn’t until recently when Santa brought us the best early Christmas gift of all time, a Victory Red Chevrolet Camaro SS.

The design house Original Runduce is a new one for us here at Top Speed, but after taking a look at their sketch of a carbon fiber wide body Nissan GT-R that they intend to display at the 2010 at the Tokyo Auto Salon, we won’t soon forget about them. The Japanese tuner announced that they have prepared a full carbon bodied GT-R that will make at least 600 HP when measured at the wheels to go along with the larger fenders and matching stretched front bumper. However we are a bit partial to the aggressive aero hood and more pronounced rear wing.

Like for the Murcielago, Lamborghini will also unveil a SV (SuperVeloce) version for the Gallardo supercar. According to latest reports the car will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Sales will begin in May 2010.

The new model, Gallardo LP570-4 Super Veloce, will feature a massive rear wing similar to the Murciélago Super Veloce, a carbon fiber roof, engine cover, lower side sills and exterior rear view mirrors combined with a totally re-styled front spoiler.

Like the Murcielago, the Gallardo SV will drop some weight (arround 200 lbs.) and will deliver up to 570 hp.

BMW announced the debut of the Concept ActiveE in January 2010 at the Detroit Auto Show. The ActiveE is based on the 1-Series Coupe and features an electric drive system that has an autonomy of 100 miles in everyday use.

The electric drive system generates a total output of 170 hp and a peak torque of 184 lb-ft. The concept goes from 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds, while top speed is limited to 90 mph.

The lithium-ion batteries of the BMW Concept ActiveE have their own liquid cooling system and intelligent battery management system, which are key elements in increasing both the storage capacity and the durability of the battery cells. These systems also ensure that the long range can be maintained largely independent of external climatic conditions. The high storage capacity is the decisive factor in achieving as long a range as possible. The storage system developed for the BMW Concept ActiveE enables a real-world range of about 100 miles on a single charge, depending on conditions (FTP72 cycle range is calculated to be 150 miles in simulation).

BMW X6 CONCEPT

BMW's X6 is a bit difficult to digest, a coupe-like body with the proportions and stance of an SUV, managing to lose the virtues of both types of vehicles. And now BMW has given it the M treatment, putting a massively powerful engine under the hood and fitting the suspension with all sorts of ingenious gear to make this vehicle handle like a sports car. Its greatest asset may be that it defies easy categorization.

Cabin tech is good, with really beautiful maps in the navigation system, but we do think that a $90,000 car should have an iPod connection as standard. The X5 M offers the same tech as the X6 M, yet has practical interior space, making it the more obvious choice. But then again, BMW's M cars have never been about practicality.

After the success of its predecessor, the advent of the 2010 Toyota Prius created a lot of expectations. But instead of incorporating sought-after features such as a lithium ion battery pack or plug-in capability, Toyota opted for incremental changes, tweaking the power train to get more power and better fuel economy.

On the cabin tech side, we expected big advances, as competitors have stepped up the game with such options as external data sources, which provide useful location information, and better compatibility with electronic devices. In this area, the 2010 Prius takes a few steps forward, but not as many as we hoped.

The new Prius model can be had in four trim levels, which Toyota dubs II, III, IV, and V, apparently preferring simple Roman numerals to arcane combinations of S, E, and L. Our test model was the Prius IV, which included navigation, upgraded JBL audio system, Bluetooth phone system, a back-up camera, and, most interestingly, the solar-roof option.

Dubai is quickly becoming the high performance car capital of the world and as such it is the perfect place for up and coming super car builders to show off their latest creations. The latest group to sign up for a booth at the upcoming Dubai International Motor Show is Kepler Motors with their hybrid super car, Motion. The 21st century super car will be limited to only 50 units making it an instant collector’s item with the first batch of deliveries set to begin in 2011.

The Kepler Motion holds true to its American roots, powered by a combination consisting of one of Ford’s new 3.5 Liter twin turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engines that has been tuned to produce 550 HP which is sent to the rear wheels as well as a 250 HP electric motor mounted on the front axle which adds an extra boost of power as well as increasing grip making it a true all wheel drive super car. So with a total of 800 HP under the carbon fiber bodywork, the Kepler Motion will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in under 2.5 seconds and reach speeds in excess of 200 MPH.

Latest future AUDI A8:

The new 2011 Audi A8 luxury sedan made its world debut in Miami at the Audi Pavilion in Miami Beach. The new A8 will go on sale on the US market in late 2010.

The new Audi A8 will be built on a new aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF) body, that weights 40% less than a comparable steel structure and will be offered with new driver assistance systems, full LED headlights and an elegant interior with a craftsman’s level of workmanship.

For the US market Audi will only offer the 4,2 FSI engine with 372 hp (the European customers will also get a 4.2 TDI with350 hp and two 3,0 TDI versions with either 250 or 204 hp). The engine will be mated to an all new 8-speed tiptronic gearbox.

The 4.2 FSI version makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5,7 seconds and can hit a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited).

AUDI A5 2010 FUTURE CAR FOR 2010:
The folks at Audi saw fit that we take their latest drop top out for a spin so when a 2010 A5 2.0 TFSI FWD Multitronic Cabriolet showed up as the latest addition to the Top Speed test fleet, we were in no mood to decline. The Ibis White A5 looks very much like the outgoing A4 Convertible, however once you spend a bit more time in and around the premium drop top from Germany, the stretched mid section with its elongated lines make the Audi A5 a much more visually appealing automobile than the car it replaces. The new A5 Convertible features the fastest folding roof in the segment, taking only 15 seconds to fully retract and can even be put in place at 30 MPH, not to mention that the cloth top features Audi Acoustic Roof technology that gives the convertible interior noise levels on par with a hard top.

The front end is made up of a pair of LED powered head lamps that sit on either side of Audi’s signature gaping grill with a pair of sporty looking air intakes filled with large round fog lamps on the ends. Like we said before, the A5’s longer lines make it look much sportier, especially when you compare the length of the door compared to the overall vehicle, Audi’s engineers also incorporated a neat trick under the hood to push those front wheels further forward in the car’s profile making it look like a long wheelbase race car. The new car’s additional length also play a role in the rear 3/4 view, the A5 has a wide squatted appearance because the car’s proportions have been altered, so although the A5’s rear end is about at tall as the more bubbly outgoing A4 it has a much more aggressive look from behind, something that is only accentuated with the top down.

The 3.2 liter V6 has been dropped, but the A3 will now be offered with the two-liter turbodiesel engine found in the the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, with 140 horsepower, 236 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed S-tronic (twin clutch) automatic transmission driving the front wheels. EPA fuel economy for the A3 TDI are 30 MPG in the city and 42 MPG on the highway. The gasoline-powered 2.0T model is now available with Quattro all-wheel-drive. All A3s get S-Line trim as standard, updated wheels, and optional wood trim, while the Premium Plus model adds Xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

Back in September Audi unveiled the battery powered E-tron Concept super car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. For those who were skeptical about the realism of a zero emission production sports car from the German automaker, Audi has just confirmed at the LA Auto Show that the E-tron will become Audi’s first electric model and go on sale in limited quantities at the end of 2012. It was Audi’s own chairman of the board, Rupert Stadler, who in a forward look at the alternative power train said that "electric power will also give Quattro more possibilities, such as powering the rear axle like in the A1 concept, or four wheels in motors like the e-tron. In fact, we want to launch a production e-tron in small volumes at the end of 2012."

The E-tron concept is powered by a purely electric drive system that consists of four individual motors, two at the front and two more at the rear of the bright orange BEV. All together the electric motors combine to create a maximum output of 313 HP and an astounding 3,319.03 lb-ft of torque propelling the E-tron from 0 to 60 MPH in a very sports car appropriate 4.8 seconds.

The 2010 Lotus Eagle has landed almost a full week ahead of its planned reveal at the British Motor Show. This single image was released on the Car Magazine website only moments ago, and we have it in full-sized glory, along with specs, after the jump.

As expected, the 2+2 features styling borrowed liberally from the Lotus Elise while taking a more grown-up spin on the Lotus design theme. A Toyota V6 lurks in the back, good for 276 HP and somewhere north of 250 lb-ft of torque. The whoa on the other side of the go is a set of 13.7 inch AP Rotors with four piston calipers and the whole enchilada rides on Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks. Those back seats seem to be designed with kids in mind and adults for very short trips, thankfully they (the seats not the adults) can be removed with the check of an option box. What can't be removed is the Alpine sound system with Bluetooth and iPod connections, standard air, traction control, ABS and leather cladding. Wonder how Mr. Chapman would feel about that? When the German automaker Porsche came up with the four door luxury sports sedan Panamera they created a new class of automobile that grants well to do high performance enthusiasts the opportunity to scare the pants off of their friends, three at a time. And as good as a 500 HP turbocharged V8 powered GT car might sound, the tuning firm SpeedArt feels that they can do the new Panamera Turbo one better with their PS9 kit. The new tuning package enhances all aspects of the Panamera by upgrading the exterior and interior as well as what’s under the hood.

The aero package consists of a SpeedART design chin spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and spoiler to channel air and keep the Panamera’s wide rear end planted when at its newfound speed. BMW’s sales and marketing man Ian Robertson was characteristically upbeat yesterday at the annual BMW press dinner (at Claridge’s in London; good opportunity to catch up with a few people). He talks a good game. BMW reacted early to the downturn, he says, by cutting production and that has left it in good shape for the downturn. And it’s doing well in the places that are growing, especially China and India.

I got the chance to ask him about the Russia market after dinner. He reckons there could be a sharp rebound and that he’s hearing optimism that it could come back pretty quickly when things start to improve next year.

It’s a tough place for all this year though, and the latest market data gave little cause for cheer for anyone. Mind you, BMW brand sales are only down 16% at 13,200 units in the first ten months - in an overall car market down 51%.

Another talking point on the night was BMW’s sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympics. There was much speculation on which other OEMs would have seriously bid for that ‘Tier One Automotive Partner’ position and also who might have been most crestfallen not to have been successful. One or two might have thought that the idea of a fleet of hybrids moving athletes around would have been a winner…

In the very closest of contests, the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia emerged victorious as Car of the Year 2009 with 321 points against the 320 for the Ford Fiesta. The Volkswagen Golf took third place with 223 points.

1. Locus Pléthore, 1,300-hp, $412,000.

Surprisingly the supercar with the highest horsepower rating is built in Canada. Perhaps this spectacular creation will help repair the memories of our last Canadian built sportscar the Bricklin SV1.

Dubbed the "Quebec Bomb", the Pléthore is built by HHT Locus Technologies in Quebec. The chassis and body is made entirely out of carbon fibre weighing approximately 1,134 kg. Fitted with the option high horsepower engine the 1,300-hp version has a power to weight ratio of a formula one racing car. The heavily modified 8.2 litre Chevrolet V-8 engine is mated to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and capable of 328 km/h.

2. SSC Ultimate Aero, 1,287-hp, $620,000.

The SSC Ultimate Aero is an American-built mid-engine supercar, built by Shelby SuperCars (SSC), of West Richland, in Washington State, no relation to the famous Carroll Shelby.

It is capable of speeds in excess of 400 km/h thanks to the SSC 387-cid, V-8 billet aluminum engine block. The Aero knocked the Bugatti Veyron off its perch as the fastest car in the world when officials from the Guinness Book of World Records recorded an official speed of 411.85 km/h making it the world's fastest supercar.

3. Lotec Sirius, 1,200-hp, Price upon request!

Lotec is a small German company that works closely with Mercedes-Benz. Its uses the same 48-valve, 6.0-litre Mercedes-Benz V-12, with twin-turbochargers, that powers the Italian built Pagani Zonda. The Sirius uses the CIMA gearbox (also used by Koenigsegg) which sits behind the engine. The bodywork is made from the optimum combination of carbon, Kevlar and fibreglass materials.

A Lotec C-1000 at the 2005 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, sold for $225,000 but it was built at a cost of $2.2 million!

It weighs in at 1.2 tonnes, can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 400 km/h.

4. Mosler 900S, 1,150-hp, $329,000.

The Mosler 900S is a culmination of over 20 years of research and development of Warren Mosler's technical team and designer Mark Trenne.

The California based company uses the iconic 5.7-litre Corvette LS6 engine, mated to a German Getrag 6-speed transmission. The body is comprised of three large sections of carbon-aluminum honeycomb over a chrome-molly tube chassis.

Nelson Racing in the USA has tweaked a Mosler accomplishing an output of 1,800-hp. The 900S can hit 100 km/h in 3 seconds and is capable of well over 320 km/h.

5. Zenvo ST1, 1,104-hp, Price has never been published.

The 1,104-hp Zenvo ST1 is a 100 percent Danish product. The cutting-edge, sharp lines and simplicity that is often associated with Danish design makes it a stunning car to look at. Everything about the Zenvo is over the top, from its turbocharged and supercharged (yes both, that is not a typo) 7.0-litre V-8 engine to the yards of carbon fibre covering its chassis. The transmission is a 6-speed manual that drives the rear wheels. To Timbuktu by flying car: it sounds the most unlikely journey on earth; a sci-fi voyage from the pages of Jules Verne. But this is no fantasy. The car really flies. And the journey will become reality early in the new year when two explorers set off from London in a propeller-powered dune buggy heading for the Sahara.

The seed of this improbable adventure was sown four years ago when Gilo Cardozo, a paramotor manufacturer, had a eureka moment. For those not familiar with paramotors, picture a parachutist with a giant industrial fan strapped to his back, which provides forward motion and boosts lift for the parachute - or wing - during takeoff. Cardozo’s brainwave was to attach a car to the fan.

“I started making a paramotor on wheels that you sit on and take off and it suddenly occurred to me, ‘Why not just have a car that does everything?’” recalls Cardozo, whose Wiltshire-based company Parajet built the paramotor that the adventurer Bear Grylls used to fly near Everest last year.

A workable flying car has been the inventors’ holy grail for half a century, but the reality has remained elusive. Just ask Paul Moller, the Canadian engineer whose four-seater Skycar is still at the prototype stage after 40 years and more than £100m of development.

Cardozo, a self-taught engineer with a tiny fraction of that budget, thinks he may finally have cracked it. “I’ve been dreaming about making flying cars since I was a boy,” he says, “thinking about all the ways it could be done and seeing how all the other people in the world have done it wrong.

“No one’s ever made one that really does work that you can go out and buy. But here’s the ultimate solution: it’s cheap, it’s safe, it works, all the technology’s already there. So I pushed ahead and thought, ‘We’ve got to do it’.”

Without recent advances in flexible wing technology, the idea would barely have got off the ground. New aerodynamic profiles and materials make it possible to lift a vehicle weighing 1,500lb and passengers without dangerous instability.

“This thing will launch itself without any pilot input,” says Cardozo. “You just open it up and it goes. The more power you put on, the faster you go until you come off the ground [at 35mph]. The wing will basically lock above you [once airborne] and stay there, without weaving, at speeds of up to 80mph.”

Yamaha’s new YZ450F is set to turn the motocross world upside down. More accurately, the YZ turns it backward!

In a bold move, Yamaha engineers have built a new motor that has its intake at the front and its exhaust exiting out the rear, similar to the unique-but-ill-fated Cannondale from a few years ago that is now sold in upgraded form as an ATK.

The new YZ-F not only has its exhaust port facing the rear of the bike, the engine itself is rearward-slanted so its weight is placed near the center of the bike. Yamaha says this design makes the big YZ feel more agile than other 450s, even approaching that of a 250cc 2-stroke machine. “It’s the most nimble handling 450 ever,” said Tim Olson, media relations manager for Yamaha’s off-road division, at the YZ’s unveiling.

However Toyota traditionalists should not worry because the quality car builder will sell their new truck alongside the old five door model starting this November.

The Land Cruiser Prado is a compact version of Toyota’s full size Land Cruiser SUV and the upcoming three door model wears the same stylish face as the of the five door, with its oversized headlights that are stretched over and around the front fenders, while the chrome framed and stripped vertical bar grill gives the front end more of a three dimensional feel. A luxurious car with great intertainment and great specifications. The 2010 BMW 7-Series lineup gains available all-wheel drive, a new top-end model, and a gas/electric hybrid version following its redesign for the 2009 model year. Conventional 7-Series models include the 750i and 750Li, each with rear-wheel drive. New for 2010 are the AWD 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive. A new top-end rear-drive 760Li is due later in model-year 2010. The "L" versions of BMW's flagship sedan ride on a wheelbase that is 5.5-inches longer than that of the 750i. Rounding out the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S Class lineup are 8 engine choices for European customers, not all of which will see American shores. Yankees do get the S600 V12 models for the understated enthusiast rich family set, as well as S63 and S65 AMG models for those who like their oversized luxury sedans with a little more sporting eye candy.

Full details for the AMG models are trickling out, but we do know the top dog S65 AMG model will pack a twin-turbo 6.0 liter 12 cylinder outputting 604 horses and 738 lb-ft of torque, and carry a base price of a stratospheric $202,825. It’s finally official! The Lexus LF-A has just made its world debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota built super car will be limited to a production run of only 500 units, each priced at $375,000. The Japanese luxury automaker is already taking orders, however the first deliveries won’t be made until early 2011.

LEXUS LF-A 2010, the LF-A is powered by a 4.8 liter V10 that delivers a maximum output of 560 HP at 9,000 RPM and a peak torque of 354 lb-ft at 6,800 RPM, with 90% of the total torque being available between the 3,700 RPM mark and the super car’s 9,000 RPM red line. As a result of such a road torque curve, the LF-A can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds and won’t stop until it reaches a top speed of 202 MPH.

In order to ensure that the LF-A handles as well as it goes in a straight line, the Lexus design team incorporated lightweight materials like aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys and titanium alloys as well as some carbon fiber to ensure that the LF-A is as rigid as possible while maintaining a low curb weight. Even the new super car’s power plant is compact in size, smaller than a conventional V8, which allowed the Toyota engineers to design the LF-A with the optimal weight distribution and an exceptional power to weight ratio. Thus giving Nissan and their GT-R super car something to watch out for.
